Two Strikes and ...

Well, my first two projects expired and I was down to one point left. I found myself thinking, "Why even bother?" I am not a quitter though. I decided to reach out to one of the other teachers on the listserv who had been successful with DonorsChoose.

I hit the jack pot! She asked me to email her a copy of one of my projects that had expired. She read it and made a few (subtle) changes. I submitted it and BANG!  - it funded. I was so excited. My principal was skeptical that someone was actually going to send me something just because I asked.

I do not even remember the name of the teacher who helped me but I will be forever grateful. Sometimes you may notice my going out of the way to help a Newbie, especially one with a red clock. Why? It's simple. Someone once went out of their way to help me.

Have a blessed weekend.

Let's Go Back....... Way Back!

Eight years ago I began my relationship with DonorsChoose. I read about DonorsChoose on a listserv. (Is anyone else old enough to remember listservs? Basically, it is how teachers shared ideas on the internet before Facebook.) Some teachers were discussing about how they had used DC and had received awesome materials for their classroom. They shared the link and I signed up. I was excited!

I wrote my first project for a wireless listening center. This was something else I had just learned about. I knew that I would never have the funds for one. The total cost of the project was $366. Then I decided to write another project for puppets. Guess what? I had no idea how to reach potential donors. Both projects expired. I was down but I was not out!

Welcome!

Hi Ya'll!

I just want to take a minute to introduce myself. I am a kindergarten teacher in the rural South. I love God, family and teaching. I am halfway through my 39th year of teaching. Most of my teaching career has been spent in kindergarten. My husband and I recently celebrated our 38th anniversary. We are the proud parents of two sons.

I am a HUGE fan of DonorsChoose, both as a teacher and a donor. For those of you who do not know me, my next post will be about my journey with DonorsChoose.

I hope you will tell me a little about yourself in the comments. I look forward to connecting with old friends and making some new ones.

Be blessed!
